A "must" for all Hal Clement fans!
The Essential Hal Clement 2 offers seventeen of Clement's shortscience fiction, from stories about the outer edges of Earth'satmosphere to deep space exploration, and demonstrate the range of a writer perhaps best known for his alien invasion story 'Needle'. This demonstrates an even wider range to his talents and makes for an excellent collection especially recommended for prior fans of Clement's novels.

The Essential Herbert (Essential Poets Volume 5)
Published in Paperback by Ecco (December, 1987)
Authors: George Herbert and Anthony Hecht
Average review score:

Outstanding!
Excellent for poetry lovers everywhere. Hecht's essay alone is worth the price of the book. Herbert's poetry still delights, challenges, exalts, reveals, inspires after almost 400 years. T.S. Eliot said first rank Christian poetry must express how a Christian actually feels in relation to loving Jesus, not how one wants to feel or ought to feel. In this, Herbert excels almost all religious poetry in the canon.

Essential Outsiders: Chinese and Jews in the Modern Transformation of Southeast Asia and Central Europe (Jackson School Publications in International Studies)
Published in Paperback by University of Washington Press (September, 1997)
Authors: Daniel Chirot and Anthony Reid
Average review score:

a history book with empathy
delving into the successes brought on by the most eminent enterpreneurial minorities, daniel chirot and anthony reid compile interesting accounts of the hardships faced by the chinese and jews settling in foreign communities. consequently, the editors offer a book which is more than a tedious and detailed narrative; rather, chirot and reid give a rich, sensitive and sympathetic blend of history and personal stories, portraying these "outsiders" with the respect they richly deserve.

Essentials of Accounting and Post Test Booklet 8, Eighth Edition
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall (03 October, 2002)
Authors: Robert N. Anthony and Leslie K. Breitner
Average review score:

Perfect as an introduction book!
The book is required in our class of Finance as an introduction to the accounting system. It's quite easy to understand all the principles by doing the exercises yourself. And the special design of reverse printing and post tests are a big help. I had accounting class before and was often confused with debits and credits of whatever assets or liablities and equity. However, when I'm doing this book, everything is clear - there's considerable details to explain how to debit or credit any accounts. Simple introduction of non-profit organizations' financial statement also quite useful. Strongly recommended.

Esu Osanyin
Published in Hardcover by Athelia Henrietta Press (01 October, 1999)
Author: Anthony Ferreira
Average review score:

Comprehensive guide to African Plants (herbs)
This is the most authentic and comprehensive guide to west African plants/herbs available. This is one of those rare instances where sacred oral tradition is written for the benefit of humankind. Ferreira's lifetime of experiences using the plants to prepare medicines, magical potions, sorcery, and talismanic magic is evident in the book. He is an adept and the contents of the book reflects his mastery of this very specialized area of the Orisha tradition.

Evaluating and Treating Adolescent Suicide Attempters: From Research to Practice (Practical Resources for the Mental Health Professional)
Published in Paperback by Academic Press (December, 2002)
Authors: Anthony Spirito and James C. Overholser
Average review score:

Guidelines for applied research can be derived from within.
I'm currently working on a school-based suicide intervention program in pursuing my PhD degree in Mexico. Eventhough the book covers most areas of interest in youth suicide there are only two chapters (the last two) dedicated to discussing possible empirical guidelines for treating suicide attempters. Naturally, it IS precisely treatment and outcome research with these adolescents that falls behind with what we currently know about teen suicide. Nevertheless, among the significant contributions of the book (profiling youth at-risk and reviewing proximal and distal riks factors for suicide behavior) are the references of scientific journal articles which I'm sure will be of great use to practitioners and grad students in the clinical psychology field. Finally, the case study vignettes offer rich insight on this complex phenomena within a psychosocial perspective.

Evaluation and Treatment of Insomnia
Published in Hardcover by Oxford Univ Pr (January, 1984)
Authors: Anthony Kales and Joyce D. Kales
Average review score:

comprehensive review of chronic insomnia
This 1984 text provides significant and accurate information on the evaluation and treatment of insomnia. Based on numerous research studies, conducted both by Dr. Kales and others, the reader is guided in appropriate evaluation and treatment strategies for chronic insomnia. This book is a must for therapists treating people with sleep-wake problems and certainly provides us with sound psychologic foundations for intervention. A must have for clinicians and researchers. An updated second edition would be most welcome.
